IDEAS for CONGRESSMAN-ELECT DAVE BRAT!

Doesn’t it sound good:  Congressman-elect Dr. David Brat!   I was with my hero, Gerry Baugh, at the Brat victory party who was so thrilled to see his dream (and mine, too) come to pass.  I told the Congressman-elect not to lose his way and that I would pray for him.

I also would suggest these ideas to start out with:

1.  Since his last name is Brat, he needs to introduce a law that would allow military brats (I am a military brat – Dad worked for the PX and thus we moved about the USA and in Germany, too.) born outside the USA to run for President.  Call it the Military Brats Presidential Eligibility Act.  There are millions of military brats and many of them were born outside the USA.  I believe that they are already eligible but I also believe a law would make it clear and would honor all the military BRATS!

2.  A law that says if you win up to and including $100, it is not income for tax purposes.  There can be a limit of $600 per year on such prizes to prevent abuse.  This is the start of chipping away at the hated tax.

3.  Find three or four minor Federal programs and abolish ‘em.  Team up with new Senator Ernst and call it the Make ‘em Squeal Act.

4.  Have the EU attempt to influence our policies investigated with ideas to prevent it from recurring.

5.  Get rid of say, five, Federal crimes that are unnecessary such as carjacking.  States can handle this well.

6.  As part of an outreach to the African-American community, recommend to the President to issue a blanket pardon for all convicted under the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.

I am sure we can come up with more.  These ought to get started with the right tone:  I’m here to do something and then after 12 years or so go back to Randolph-Macon College and teach economics and ethics.
